TIONSCADAIL SCOILEANNA & FOR-ROCHTANA Éigse loves working with Carlow schools and community groups and we’re always enthusiastic about growing and expanding our programme each year to invest in our children and our community’s future. While the focus on schools and outreach projects reaches its peak during the festival, we continue to provide workshops and opportunities to schools, nursing / convalescent homes and community groups in Carlow all year round. Poster competitionWe once again set the task of finding Carlow’s budding young artist with the successful poster converted by our graphic designers into a professional event poster, distributed in the run up to Éigse as promotion for the festival. Young Critics ForumThe young Critics Forum leaves nothing uncovered during the festival. A cast of young critics have been workshopped in “round table discussions” facilitated by writer Dave Donohue and members of the Carlow Nationalist newspaper. The young critics will attend a range of events at Éigse to deconstruct and scrutinise the programme of events. The reviews will be printed in The Carlow Nationalist - our media partner, shortly after the festival. Keep an eye out to see what the young critics think of the 2010 festival!! Visual arts schools interpretive talks and workshopsTours of the visual arts exhibitions are provided annually for a number of schools throughout the festival providing easy-to-understand talks about the artworks on display and helping school children and their teachers to develop a better understanding of the wide range of visual art on display. IBM Lego® Robot projectVolunteers from IBM conduct workshops on location to introduce older school children to the engineering process of LEGO® robotics. The workshop involves building and programming of the robots and provides quality learning experiences for all. Outreach projectsA selection of artists at Éigse 2010 will perform special performances at a number of local nursing homes and day care centres throughout the county. This year Éigse is also working with members of the travelling community in Carlow via the University of Limerick’s NOMAD project, providing performance and showcasing opportunities during the festival. |
