UTOPIA - Eutopos (good place) Outopos (No Place) Thomas More (1516)
By definition true utopias are those we can never hope to gain. They do not exist. The literal derivation from Greek is ‘Nowhere’ yet if utopia - the ideal society, an expression of perfect harmony - lies beyond the bounds of possibility, we are, it seems, propelled by our nature and as part of the human condition, to strive towards, to imagine, perfection or moments of perfection.

For ÉIGSE 06, we have invited 21 artists, Irish and international, whose current work touches on notions of utopia and/or visit utopian moments, to make new work or present an existing work for this context. The invited artists are: Suki Chan (China), Paul Doran, Mark Garry & Karl Burke, Paul Gregg, Douglas Gordon (UK), Vivienne Griffen, Tellervo Kalleinen and Oliver Kochta-Kalleinen (Finland), Nevan Lahart, Peter Lloyd Lewis (UK), Eilís McDonald, Mark McGreevy, Irene Murphy & Mick O’Shea, Collette Nolan, Mairéad O hEocha, Desmond Shortt, Dominic Stevens, and Mary Ruth Walsh.
